Road trip to Pelion

My favorite type of travelling is road trips and that’s because I can depart whenever I want without rushing to catch my flight or the boat, during the trip I enjoy all these beautiful sceneries and of course I can bring everything with me as I don’t have to squeeze all of my stuff in a carry-on luggage.I visited Pelion for a second time(it won’t be my last visit for sure) and we spent a lovely weekend exploring the villages, hiking and enjoying the local delicacies.I chose my best moments and I created my own Pelion travel guide for you.

First stop the village of Milies. The vintage train station is a must see and you have to take the little steam train called “Moutzouris” which is crossing all those green landscapes full of nature.Milies are famous for their handmade, traditional spoon sweets made only with fresh fruits and sugar – my personal favorites are those with apples and quinces.

In our way to Portaria we had a cup of hot coffee on the central square of Tsagarada in front of a 1000 years old plane tree – the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the crisp, clear air.In Portaria we went for hiking to Kentavros Path,a magical, calming place and our guide was our dog Foivos who enjoyed this trip the most.I highly recommend the Kritsa restaurant after a full day of activities as it offers delicious, traditional dishes like steaks,Greek green salads with fried eggs and desserts like chocolate pies and baked apples. If you are looking for something different than that like a chocolate cheesecake, apple pie with ice cream or coctails for a night out then the cafe-bar Aeriko is the place. It offers so many tasty options that you can’t decide easily- My suggestion? All of them!

Our last stop was the village of Makrinitsa, so traditional and picturesque – the most beautiful village of Pelion for me.We had our breakfast enjoying the view of Pelion and Volos(hot coffee and spoon sweets of course) and then a traditional dish with tomato, local herbs and spices. We met some locals and chatted about their beautiful village and their traditions, tasted their famous “tsipouro”,a strong pomace spirit and of course we bought a bottle for our home.We also bought vases of spoon sweets in different flavours to offer them as a gift to our loved ones.

This road trip to Pelion was remarkable and I highly recommend it as a Fall/Winter destination, it offers so much that one trip won’t be enough!

Love Lou!
